Born in 1926, Carl was raised a hardworking farm and ranch kid during the great depression. At 17 yrs old he enlisted in the Army Air Force and was trained as a Ball Turret Gunner on a B-17 crew. The Ball Turret was a rotating sphere made of metal and glass which housed the operator along with two .50 cal machine guns. It was known as one of the most dangerous jobs to have as the life expectancy was extremely short due to the exposed position of the turret on the belly on the aircraft.
I love this man’s spirit of never giving up… Watching this man still doing things in his 90’s is an inspiration to never give up.
