He opened a newspaper and saw a photo of an A-1 Skyraider and said, “I want to fly that.” Little did he know the legendary future that awaited him at the controls of that airplane. Jim Beggerly served 21 years in the US Air Force and was awarded 2 Silver Stars, 6 Distinguished Flying Crosses, and 22 air medals. After the war in Vietnam, he became an instructor and in 1975, he re-wrote the pilot training course for the Air Force. The course he wrote is still in use today.
