He was only 18 years old when Earl Schroeder found a sense of place within the United States Air Force. Trained as a radar technician he was stationed around the States at various radar installations as part of the Air Defense Command – a security bubble providing early warning of enemy intruders, notably the feared Russians. Now in his 80’s, Earl is an active member of the VFW and American Legion, and has taken on the responsibility of putting hundreds of American flags on display in Sisters, Oregon. The last 15 years he has taken this duty to heart and maintains a heartfelt love for flag and country. This is his story.
